Project Goals
To achieve the desired effect of the FAUstairs project – increasing academic success – the following project goals are being pursued within the three pillars of the project:
1. Further development of FAU degree programmes: Adaptation of examination regulations and module handbooks to improve studyability and integration of innovative assessment methods. Ensuring coherence between learning objectives, teaching activities and assessments in line with constructive alignment. Further development of admission procedures and degrees through competence profiles in order to switch from summative criteria (e.g. grade point average) to more meaningful indicators (e.g. competence profiles).
2. Development of innovative assessment concepts and formats: Introduction of new formative and summative assessments, supplemented by digital education technologies for continuous improvement and adaptation to the individual learning needs of students.
3. Development and integration of an AI-supported teaching/learning environment: Implementation of ontology-based degree programme and competence models for precise, adaptive learning process control. These systems will be integrated into FAU’s IT ecosystem, in particular the StudOn learning management system.
4. Promoting self-regulation in the learning process: Improvement of reflection and control of learning objectives and competence profiles. Adaptation of the teaching architecture for flexible monitoring through a monitoring system for courses that supports adaptive responses and just-in-time teaching.
5. Strengthening participatory teaching process design: Involving all relevant status groups, especially students, and regularly reviewing teaching tools to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
6. Sustainable, data-driven further development of the teaching architecture with quality assurance: Educationally sound, technically supported teaching architecture with data-based monitoring and quality assurance beyond the project duration.
